MILKWEED BUGS

by

Jess , Rylee , Beau and Jimmy (Prue’s Year 3 class)
Milkweed bugs are often found in our Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden.

They live in milkweed plants and trees near leaves .

They are about 1-2cm long.

They are black and orange (or black and red).

The food that they eat are milkweed seeds, they suck juice out of milkweed plants.  They eat with their proboscis tube. They like milkweed seeds the most .

Some insects are helpful to gardeners and some are a pest. Milkbugs are nothing to worry about.Milkweed bugs don’t sting but they are poisonous. You can not get harmed by these beetles.

They lay eggs which turn into more milkweed bugs .

If you look closely there is a milking on the sleeve of this jumper

This was researched and published in Digital Technologies Class with Mrs Pooley.

Students were learning about how data can be represented in different ways. A QR code is a different way of representing data, and this will be linked to a QR code that can be scanned in the garden.
